A Sensory-based Movement Practice
What is Nia?
Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from a combination of martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Nia, shortened from “Neuromuscular Integrative Action”, was founded by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas in 1983 to promote an integration of body, mind, emotions and spirit.
How does a Nia session work?
A Nia session is a 60-minute group offering. A session may range from gentle, meditative movements to more robust, cardio-vascular movements. Nia is not style-specific and participants aren’t required to have any prior training.
Why would I participate in a Nia session?
The expressive aspect of Nia allows blocked emotional pathways to be released which leads to feelings of joy and ease.
Other benefits include improved concentration, increased energy levels, grounding and balance.
Where do Nia sessions take place?
Nia sessions take place weekly in the CHC Studio. Explore our calendar for the next available session. You can also view and book other Holisitic Movement Classes taking place in the Studio.
